Joshua Maxwell
POSTDOC
Josh was born in Sydney, Australia in the teaching hospital of the University of Sydney, where, unbeknownst to him at the time, he would go onto to complete his undergraduate studies with a dual major in medicinal chemistry and immunology. Josh then stayed onto complete his PhD studies with Prof. Richard Payne in peptide chemistry and chemical biology. Over the course of his PhD, Josh worked on self-adjuvanting peptide vaccines targeting SARS-CoV-2, the post-translational modification of insect anticoagulants and developing cyclic sulfopeptide inhibitors of the complement proteins. In the Spiegel lab, he will be working on developing novel platforms exploiting bifunctional molecules for the treatment of human diseases. Outside of the lab, Josh enjoys cooking (especially fermenting chillies for hot sauce), gardening, tennis and a cheeky beer at a local brewery.
